2026 Mazda CX-70 Review: 5 Things I Loved

This 2026 Mazda CX-70 may be my next personal vehicle. After having driven multiple variants of Mazda’s CX-70 and CX-90, I think this configuration may be the one for me and possibly you. I’ll go through the top 5 things I really loved about this CX-70 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus.

1. Beautiful Exterior Design

Now I know beauty is subjective, but smooth flowing body lines of the CX-70 are beautiful. The aggressive and angry-looking front end, adds to the design attitude of the CX-70. The side profile reminds me of the proportions of the ND Miata, with the long hood and the shorten looking rear proportions. Although this loaner was in the Polymetal Gray metallic color, I personally would choose the Melting Copper metallic to stand out in the parking lot full of gray SUVs.

2. Luxury Interior for Less

Mazda’s interiors rival those of ultra luxury vehicles but at a lower price point. With the quilted tan Nappa leather, you’ll never want to get out of the CX-70. You’ll find an alcantara-like material wrapping the door cards as well as the front part of the dashboard. To add to the luxuries, you also get a two-tone steering wheel design.

3. Cargo Space for everything

Here comes the tricky decision to make when you’re trying to decide between the CX-70 and the CX-90. They are virtually the same vehicle, but the 70 is the 2 row variant, while the 90 is the 3 row variant. We are a family of 3 plus a dog, so I’d rather the 2 row CX-70 to have all the cargo room available, and not pay the additional cost for the third row. If you were to go with the 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus in the CX-90, you can only get the 7-passenger configuration. The captain’s seats leaves the middle channel open which I dislike when getting groceries, since they can all slide to the front part in any hard braking.

4. Mild Hybrid, Hot Power

With this being the Turbo S trim, the 3.3L inline 6-cylinder mild hybrid, will offer 340 horsepower, and 369 lb.-ft. of torque. That’s a bump of 60 horsepower and 37 torque over the non-S trim. You’re going to want the extra power of the S if you plan to tow a Miata like I would. With Texas highways being 70+ mph, it is nice to have the passing power for those speeds. Only thing I’ll say is that it doesn’t like to be driven slow and 1st gear is short so I did experience a bit of a jolt when it goes to the longer 2nd gear. The mild hybrid does help a bit with the MPGs (23 city, 28 highway, 25 combined), but you’ll be suffering with the premium only requirement of the Turbo S.

5. Putting it all together

Brands are constantly chasing for that it factor and the CX-70 delivers. Sometimes its not something that can be communicated in specs. The CX-70 can be described as a full sized Miata with how great of an overall package it is. With their Kinematic Posture Control standard, the inner rear wheel will apply slight brakes to help with balance and cornering, should you come across a fun road. The rear-biased i-ACTIV AWD delivers the power in a sporty way, with seamless power transfer to the front, if needed. With all the luxury, sportiness, and tech, it’s easy to see why the Mazda CX-70 is such a great SUV.
