2025 Mazda CX-5 Review: Next Gen Wish List

With the new generation of the Mazda CX-5 announced, I was glad to take the 2025 model for one last spin and to have a wish list of things I hope come over onto the new gen. At the time of this publishing, we’ve only been provided limited information regarding the new model.
Starting with the outside, I love that Mazda is still going to keep the angry browed front end and making it even more aggressive. The Platinum Quartz Metallic color on this CX-5 gave it a luxury look. I’m glad to see that Mazda will continue to offer the Soul Red Crystal Metallic in the new generation as we saw in the press release photos.
Opening the doors, I’m hoping to see that the new model will continue to use the 90 degree opening rear doors that the 2025 model has. The large opening makes it easy to put in child seat in the back. Where we’ve seen things change is the infotainment system. Out goes the multi-function knob/joystick in exchange for a touchscreen interface. One of the things I dislike about the 2025 model is the touch function is disabled at speed. My assumption of the new model, is that touch will be available full time since the input device has been removed.
Under the hood, the 2.5L turbocharged inline 4-cylinder delivers 256 horsepower and 320 lb.-ft. of torque. The power is then handled by the 6-speed auto and then delivered to the AWD system. The sound and snappy power curve is always a smile inducing experience. Mazda has mentioned that the new generation will offer their naturally aspirated 2.5L that offers plenty of power for every day driving. I’m excited to see what the new SkyActiv-Z hybrid engine will offer. Mazda has mentioned that it will be a higher level of performance and fuel efficiency and will be available in 2027
Overall, if you manage to get a remaining 2025 CX-5 model, you’ll be getting an incredible package. If you plan on waiting for the new 2026, it appears that Mazda has continued to build off their great offering.
