2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Review: Sports Car for the Family

This goes out to everyone that has to sell their sports car because they’re starting a family. I was determined to make the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone Edition to make a sports car a daily family car.

If you decide to get one of the 860 of the Hakone Editions that will be made, you’ll be getting some exclusive goodies. To start, the Ridge Green color looked spectacular and reminded me of the iconic British Racing Green.

Adding a matte bronze color to the 18 inch wheels made a great accent color to the Ridge Green. The red Brembo brake caliper color really popped behind the matte bronze.

Interior-wise, you’ll see tan colored accents all around. This includes the seats, steering wheel, hand brake cover, and shifter boot. One of my favorite Hakone exclusives is the tan key fob cover and the owner’s manual folio.

Going back to being a family vehicle, I made sure to make use of it like I normally use my CUV. It started with loading up my wife, kid, and I to go to a Miata car show, ironically the GR86 biggest competitor. It was an hour long drive each way and we were blasting our tunes through the system that included a Kicker subwoofer.

My 10 year old kid was more comfortable when it was just him and I on a Costco grocery run. I gotta say I was extremely impressed that I was able to fit our wholesale grocery shop. It was also nice to have a sports car when I had the emergency of a failing refrigerator, to quickly get ice.

Although the 2025 Toyota GR86 Hakone isn’t the typical daily family car, I gotta say, I made it work and I’m sure you can too.
