2025 Mazda CX 50 Hybrid Review: Incognito Hybrid

This 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid will be the 4th CX-50 that I’ve reviewed. I always get excited to see it scheduled and I’ve been waiting to see what the Hybrid lineup had to offer.
To start on the outside, I was surprised to see that you can only differentiate the hybrid by the 19” wheel design that this Premium Plus came with, and the fender and rear hatch Hybrid badges. I guess it is a good thing considering the CX-50 is already a beautifully designed CUV. I’m glad Mazda didn’t give it an EV’esque design treatment for the sake of MPGs and ruin it’s looks.
Inside, the Hybrid will look exactly the same, except for the tachometer that’s been replaced by the meter showing a power and charge section. I was a little disappointed to see that even in the Premium Plus package, the Hybrid model does not get the 360 degree camera system. Then I was even more disappointed when I found out that it is extremely exclusive to only the 2.5L Turbo Premium Plus model. I wish it were available in at least the Premium Plus models for the non-turbo 2.5L and the hybrid as it is a great system to experience.
With the 2.5L Hybrid, expect to have 219 combined net horsepower. The Hybrid sits perfectly between the naturally aspirated 2.5L and the turbocharged version when it comes to power. Financially, it is almost a no brainer to get the Hybrid as the additional cost of around $2,400 will quickly be recuperated when your getting 50% more city and almost 20% highway MPGs.
Overall, the new Hybrid offering for the Mazda CX-50 is a great start. Although there are a few things I’d like to see improve on the tech side, you can’t go wrong with this model.
