2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV Review: Avalanche Style, Electric Powertrain

I’ve been waiting to get ahold of Chevy’s EV truck for some time. I was delivered a 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV LT in Slate Gray Metallic. The truck has a big presence that caught the attention of many people. During the week that I had the truck, I had 4 people stop me to ask about the truck. Half of those people were during my stop to Home Depot that were interested in replacing their gas powered work truck for an EV option. The attention grabbing was credited to the Avalanche-like styling along with the massive 22” aluminum wheels with the aero inserts.

Getting in the Silverado EV, you’ll be greeted with a rather simple looking interior unless you go to the higher RST trim. The heated and vented seats will have you in comfort to drive or Super Cruise the full 390 mile charge range. Unfortunately, the Silverado EV is one of the GM products that does not have Apple CarPlay support but the bluetooth connection lets you play your music out of the incredibly sounding Bose system. You’ll want to opt for the tech package to get the rear view camera which made the rear visibility clear regardless if you had rear passengers. The rear seating area provided plenty of legroom space for tall passengers with heated seats on the outer spots.

The party trick to the Silverado EV is of course the Mult-Flex Midgate. Putting the seats down, removing the glass, bringing down the back panel, and then opening the Multi-Flex Tailgate will yield you a full length of 10 feet 10 inches! Without any instructions, I was able to easily figure out the system to bring the Midgate down and back up. It’s also a well thought out system to be done as a one person process with things like a rear glass holder when you unlatch it.

Under the hood, you’ll find a frunk which I always welcome on a truck to store any shopping runs. As far as powertrain, you have the dual motor setup (1front, 1 back) that deliver 645 horsepower and 765 lb.-ft. of torque when you activate Wide Open Watts (W.O.W). Although the 0-30 and 0-60mph numbers weren’t as fast as the Ford Lighting, I did love the drivability of the Silverado. Don’t get me wrong, the Silverado EV can still get up and go without W.O.W activated.

So the question is Silverado EV or F-150 Lighting? Well as much as a enjoyed the drivability of the Silverado EV, the lack of Apple CarPlay is a big factor for someone that enjoys tech in vehicles. Other than that, the Avalanche-like stying, the comfortable seats, the Super Cruise, and the Bose sound system makes this a great option for those that don’t mind the lack of Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
