2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison Review: Factory Extreme Off-Roader

The mid-size truck segment is as hot as ever. The 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 was already an incredible truck, but Chevy let AEV have a go at raising the bar. The Radiant Red Tintcoat is hard to miss and having it on the lifted ZR2 will make you stand out even more. With the AEV stamped steel front and rear bumpers, you’ll have a better approach and departure angles. The 17” beadlock capable AEV wheels and 35” tires, get ready to tackle on any on or off road obstacle. Adding the AEV’s Bison back will also get you 5 Boron steel skid plates which protect  the radiator, independent front suspension, transmission and transfer case, fuel tank, and rear differential.

After you get a running start to jump in to the significantly higher Colorado, you’ll see a couple of AEV branded items. The seat’s headrests will have AEV Bison embroidered on it. Since AEV knows you’ll be getting dirty with this super Colorado, the Bison package includes really nice all-weather floor liners for the front and rear. Everything else interior-wise is the same as the standard ZR2.

Under the hood, you get the 2.7L TurboMax 4-cylinder engine cranking out 310 horsepower and 430 lb.-ft. of torque. With the larger tire setup, it will smooth the torque curve from the turbo. The Bison package also made the Colorado feel a little slower than the standard ZR2. As far as the suspension, I was impressed how well it paired with the larger tires to allow me a sports car-like spirited drive, but also great on off-roading.

Now the big question is of course, should you pay $11,700 to add the Bison package to the Colorado ZR2? The answer is simple, do you like doing the work yourself or would you rather take it from the dealer to the trails? For me, if I had the money, I’d easily let Chevrolet add the AEV goodies and let me enjoy the trails!
