2022 Mercedes E53 Sedan: Less Cylinders but Still Fun
The Mercedes E-Class line has always had a classy design. The 2022 AMG E53 is no exception, specially in the Polar White color. The AMG Night Package helped accent the pieces by painting them in gloss black. The only thing I felt was lacking, was a more aggressive AMG front bumper treatment.
The wheels that the E53 was equipped with, has been my favorite Mercedes design. The GLA we reviewed had a similar design that I’ve named the stop top burners. These were split 5-spoke designs with that circle connecting all the spokes. They definitely added to a more bold look which is why the front pieces were lackluster in comparison.
You get inside and you have premium leather seats with red stitching. Now they weren’t the most comfortable for someone bigger, but the adjustability made up for it. These were the models that only have heating and they worked well in the colder temperatures. I’ve experienced the venting in the other Mercedes and recommend it for the hotter summer days. The carbon fiber trim looked incredible even though the $2,850 charge is a little tough to consider it. The Acoustic Comfort Package adds additional cabin insulation. The Mercedes was quieter when stopped, but the road noise came in significantly through the tire/wheel setup. The windows with the heat absorbing membrane did help absorb some of the heat into the black leather interior.
Under the hood, we seemed to be missing 2 cylinders from the typical E-Class AMG models. With supplier shortages, Mercedes has gone with the 3.0L inline 6-cylinder instead of their typical V8 engine. Even though the V8 would’ve been incredible, the inline 6 was able to deliver plenty of power to get you going. The success of the inline 6 gets you thinking if Mercedes will just decide to continue using it and not go with the V8 models. I hope that’s not the case as I’ve driven the V8 wagon model and the sounds are addicting.
Even though I feel like the 2022 may be a lull due to the smaller engine, I truly enjoyed driving it for the week.
