2021 Land Rover Discovery R-Dynamic Review: Off Road Luxury
When deciding between something rugged and luxurious, you’re stuck with deciding one or the other. That’s where the 2021 Land Rover Discovery comes in and offers both.
Our loaner Land Rover Discovery was optioned with the Lantau Bronze which gave it a very classic look. You’ll also want to add the black roof option to help the bronze stand out even more. The premium LED headlights option adds adaptive lighting to help direct the light to where you're turning.
The air suspension starts low for easy entry and then raises up to tackle some tough terrain. In between, it absorbs any road imperfections like no other vehicle I’ve driven. It is extremely dialed in and doesn’t translate to the cabin for an incredibly smooth ride. The 21” wheel design adds the luxury touch with tall tires to handle the more rugged terrain.
Inside you’ll immediately see it's all about luxury. The 18-way adjustable seats makes it easy to find your driving sweet spot. The added heated option was a nice touch but I would definitely add the vented option for those hot Texas summers. The additional captain’s chair armrest was a huge surprise that made long drives really easy to get comfortable.
Under the hood, the 3.0L Inline-6 turbo engine produces 355 horsepower. Even with a mild hybrid system, the power delivery didn’t feel significant but was very linear. Off-roading low end power was plenty but did feel like it suffered at mid to high RPMs for highway passing.
We loved what Land Rover did with this 2021 Discovery. It has off road touches from the Defender, mixed with luxury from the Range Rover line. We definitely want this in our driveway.
