Alfa Romeo Stelvio Review: SUV with Italian Flair

The 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio that we reviewed was truly a SUV with Italian flair. This Stelvio we had was in the TI Sport AWD trim and was optioned out with some great packages that Alfa Romeo offers.

Starting on the outside, the Alfa White color was a great choice to have the other options stand out. This Stelvio had the Nero Edition Sport option which blacked out the wheels, grille, badges, and exhaust tips. It’s the perfect contrast that makes the white stand out, and the black draws attention to accents of the Stelvio. The red brake calipers also pop inside of the 20” black wheels.

When you open the door, the Italian flair is easily seen. The red sport leather seats are a must in the Stelvio. Aside from the color, the seats had really large bolsters to make sure that you stayed in place. The adjustability of the bolsters was surprising but would’ve loved a little more on the wide spectrum.

The doors were also dressed in red leather as well as red stitching to add to the loud but classy Italian flair. You could also fine the 3 driver presets which is always welcomed when it’s the family vehicle and you need to share. The Harman Kardon system can also be seen on the door with a brushed aluminum speaker grille. The sound system wasn’t just about looks as it delivered a clear and loud playback of our favorite songs.

Once you get seated, you’re greeted by a sporty leather wrapped steering wheel. The size and design were one of my favorite wheels I’ve turned. The dimpled leather added a great texture to grip and wrap your fingers around the wheel. The volume button also had a textile feel when you put the volume up or down. Behind the wheel were the massive column mounted shifter pedals that you couldn’t help but to press to go up and down the gears.

Starting up the 2.0L inline 4, will give you 280 horsepower distributed across all 4 wheels. The carbon fiber driveshaft will help deliver the power in a more efficient way. Even though traction control couldn’t be turned off in this model, we didn’t really feel it be intrusive when we were heavy footed on the gas pedal.

Some of the other Italian flairs that we encountered were the wireless charger which was at an angle and tucked away to do its job. The trunk space was also extremely large making it very useful to have all 5 passengers in the front and their luggages in the back.

Even with all that flair, we felt like something was missing. We were really spoiled when we got to test the Quadrifoglio and knew what you can get when you shelled out more money. It’s not to say that the TI Sport AWD is a bad trim, but when you know what it could be, you’ll want to save your Starbucks money and spend it on the higher level trim.
