2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe Review: Less is More

One of my biggest automotive pet peeves is when manufacturers make a 4-door “coupe”, but the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe deserves an exception. The Bering Blue color made its primarily gray tones stand out till the sun made the bluish hue appear. The black chrome accents on the big crest grille and trim was a classier touch than gaudy bright chrome. The big 22-inch wheels also helped give that great touch of luxury. What makes this a “coupe” is a more fastback approach to the rear design of the SUV.
To get into the GV80 Coupe, you’ll have 4-doors to pick from. Genesis never disappoints with the extremely high end materials and finishes to their interiors. This iteration had the ultramarine blue colors with orange stitching. Their shade of orange does venture more into the reds, till it is in direct sunlight. The infotainment UI has to be one of the most robust but simplest systems that I’ve used. I’ve seen “coupe” versions of other vehicles and my biggest issue with them is the smaller cargo space they usually have. That’s not the case with the GV80’s version because they’ve removed the third row seating in favor of all the storage space.
Under the hood, we get the 3.5 twin-turbo V6 but this one has a 48V e-Supercharger. That bumps the power to 409 horsepower and 405 lb.-ft. of torque. The mild hybrid system is there to make the turbo spool quicker and you’ll definitely feel it always working when in sport mode. In eco, it’s as if the hybrid system isn’t active till you floor it and it transforms the power band with a mid range boost feeling. Honestly, the eco mode off/on feel of the power was actually more entertaining than having it in sport where the power was strong but linear.
Overall, the 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe made me change my mind on these 4-door coupes. The larger cargo space with the 3rd row elimination made it a better configuration for my needs. The jump to the MHEV does require an extra $5,800 and although it’s not necessary, that power plant was addicting to get the big SUV moving.
